BYD Song Becomes World's Best-Selling Electric Vehicle in April 2025

According to a Clean Technica report, global electric vehicle sales reached 1.45 million units in April 2025. This volume represents a 22% year-on-year (YoY) increase.

During this period, the BYD Song became the world's best-selling electric vehicle model, with sales of 51,550 units. This achievement surpassed the Tesla Model Y, which previously held the top spot.

However, sales of the BYD Song (or Seal U) decreased by 15% YoY. These sales figures combine sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

"BYD Song sales declined sharply in the domestic market due to internal competition with newer models, such as the Song L, Sea Lion 07, and several others," Clean Technica stated in its report on Thursday, June 5, 2025.

Following closely behind was the Tesla Model Y with sales of 50,889 units, a 29% YoY correction.
