According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of train passengers in Indonesia reached 42 million in February 2025.
This figure includes train passengers on Java and non-Java islands (Sumatra and Sulawesi), including airport trains, MRT, LRT, and the Whoosh high-speed rail.
The number of national train passengers in February 2025 decreased by 3.04% compared to the previous month (month-to-month/mtm). This decrease occurred across all train routes.
During this period, the highest number of passengers came from Jabodetabek commuter train users, reaching 27.2 million people or 64.72% of the total national train passengers. Despite being the largest, the volume decreased by 1.16% (mtm).
Meanwhile, train passengers in non-Jabodetabek Java decreased by 8.97% (mtm) to 7.06 million passengers; in non-Java regions, it decreased by 9.70% (mtm) to 543,800 passengers; and airport train passengers decreased by 7.28% (mtm) to 709,000 passengers.
Similarly, MRT passengers decreased by 1.63% (mtm) to 3.47 million passengers; LRT passengers decreased by 3.02% (mtm) to 2.59 million passengers; and Whoosh high-speed rail passengers plummeted by 10.24% (mtm) to 476,600 passengers.
Cumulatively, the number of national train passengers from January to February 2025 reached 85.4 million people. The volume increased by 10.77% compared to the same period last year (cumulative-to-cumulative/ctc).
The increase in cumulative passenger numbers occurred across all train routes. Specifically, Jabodetabek area train passengers increased by 6.34% (ctc); non-Jabodetabek Java increased by 9.51% (ctc); non-Java regions increased by 9.07% (ctc); and airport trains increased by 20.61% (ctc).
Furthermore, MRT passengers increased by 22.39% (ctc); LRT passengers surged by 59.24% (ctc); and Whoosh high-speed rail passengers grew by 23.36% (ctc).
