Data from the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower (Kemenaker) shows that 3,325 domestic employees experienced layoffs (PHK) in January 2025.
Of Indonesia's 34 provinces, only 12 reported layoff cases at the beginning of this year.
The most significant number of layoffs occurred in DKI Jakarta, with 2,650 people or 80% of the total nationally laid-off workers. This was followed by Riau with 323 layoff cases and Bali with 84 cases.
Meanwhile, the provinces with the lowest number of layoffs nationally were West Sumatra and Riau Islands, each recording one case.
It should be noted that this data does not encompass all layoff cases in Indonesia. Kemenaker only records layoff cases reported by companies through the Manpower Service Information and Application System or the Industrial Relations Court.
In addition, the government is considered to have failed to save the employees of PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk (Sritex), which has been declared bankrupt. Deputy Minister of Manpower, Immanuel Ebenezer, admitted that government efforts were unsuccessful, resulting in Sritex officially closing on March 1, 2025, and impacting 10,665 employees through layoffs.
According to him, this layoff decision was made by the curator in the Sritex bankruptcy case decided last year.
"We are a nation governed by law, so we must abide by the law. Kemenaker is at the forefront of defending workers' rights, and the government guarantees that workers will receive their entitlements," Immanuel stated, as reported by *Katadata*, Friday (February 28, 2025).
