2016, Commuter Line ridership reached 280 million.

PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek (KCJ) recorded 280 million passengers served by the Commuter Line in 2016. This figure represents an 8.9 percent increase from the previous year's 257 million passengers. However, the 280 million figure fell short of the company's target of 285 million passengers. According to KCJ, this shortfall was due to the company's unwillingness to compromise service quality to meet the target.

The increase in passenger numbers this year resulted from the addition of carriages on several routes. By the end of 2016, PT KCJ had operated 18 trainsets with 12 carriages each and 29 trainsets with 10 carriages each. In 2017, PT KCJ targeted 292 million passengers for the Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train service. This figure represents an increase of approximately 12 million compared to the 2016 passenger count.
