COVID-19 test results have become a requirement for people to travel using various modes of transportation. To meet this requirement, various international airports now provide polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests.
Sky Trax Ratings conducted research on costs to determine the price differences of PCR tests at various airports worldwide. In Asia, the results show that the Kansai International Airport in Japan has the most expensive PCR test. The price reaches US$404, or approximately Rp 5.8 million (using an exchange rate of US$1 = Rp 14,375).
Next, two other airports in Japan also charge high prices for PCR testing: Narita International Airport, with a PCR test price of US$275, and Centrair Chubu International Airport in Nagoya at US$256. Incheon International Airport in South Korea charges US$71 for a PCR test, while Hong Kong International Airport charges US$64.
The price of PCR tests at airports in Indonesia is also among the top ten highest in Asia. Denpasar and Jakarta airports are ranked sixth and seventh, with PCR test prices of US$61 and US$54 respectively.
Muscat International Airport in Oman follows with a PCR test price of US$50. Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates and Almaty International Airport in Kazakhstan charge US$41 and US$36 respectively.
