The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported a decrease in the number of domestic air and sea passengers in June 2022 compared to the previous month.
According to BPS data, the number of domestic air passengers departing in June 2022 was 4.87 million, a 7.80% decrease compared to May 2022, which saw 5.29 million passengers.
A similar decrease occurred in sea transportation, with the number of sea passengers in June 2022 reaching 1.61 million, a 7.38% decrease compared to the previous month's 1.74 million.
BPS Head Margo Yuwono explained that the decrease in domestic air and sea transportation was due to the end of the 2022 Eid al-Fitr holiday.
"Domestic air and sea transportation decreased month-to-month due to the end of the 2022 Eid al-Fitr holiday, which caused a decline in domestic transportation," Margo said in a press conference on Monday (1/8/2022).
Meanwhile, international air transportation increased by 23.28% to 580,000 passengers in June 2022 from 470,000 the previous month.
Similarly, railway transportation increased by 0.29% to 23.48 million passengers from 23.41 million in the same period.
According to Margo, the increase in international air transportation was due to Hajj departures and ongoing G20 side events, while the increase in railway transportation was due to the normalization of KRL (commuter line) activities.
Compared to June 2021 (year-on-year/YoY), all modes of transportation experienced an increase. Domestic air transportation increased by 38.51%, international air transportation by 933.69%, domestic sea transportation by 14.61%, and railway transportation by 61.28%.
