Donald Trump sent letters to 14 countries threatening import tariffs if they didn't reach a trade consensus with him before the August 1, 2025 deadline. The ultimatum from the US President was reported by the Associated Press and published by Katadata.
Of the 14 countries, four faced the same tariffs announced last April. Eight countries received lower tariffs, and two received higher tariffs.
Myanmar and Laos had the highest tariffs at 40% each, though both saw reductions. Previously, Myanmar faced a 44% tariff and Laos a 48% tariff.
Indonesia faced a 32% tariff—unchanged since last April. Its major exports to the US include palm oil, vegetable fats, and semiconductors.
Trump also warned that any retaliatory tariffs would result in even higher US tariffs. He posted the letter on his Truth Social platform.
