According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Indonesia's nickel export performance strengthened again in 2024, continuing the rapid growth trend that began in 2022.
In 2024, Indonesia's basic nickel metal processing industry export volume reached 1.92 million tons, a 53% increase compared to 2023 (year-on-year/yoy).
During this period, the value of national nickel exports also increased by 17% (yoy) to US$7.99 billion.
In 2024, Indonesia exported the most basic nickel metal to China, with a volume of 1.77 million tons.
These shipments to China represent 92% of the total volume of national nickel exports.
Other major buyers of Indonesian nickel in 2024 include Japan, the Netherlands, South Korea, Singapore, Norway, and Taiwan.
According to the Indonesian Nickel Mining Association (APNI), Indonesian nickel products have dominated the global market.
"Actually, our nickel in Indonesia has become a global determinant, especially in 2023 and 2024 we have held a market size of over 60%, some say 63% to 65%, specifically Indonesian nickel production," said APNI Secretary General Meidy Katrin Lengkey, as reported by *CNBCIndonesia.com* (21/1/2025).
