President Jokowi officially banned the export of cooking oil, including palm oil, its raw material.

"I have decided that the government will ban the export of cooking oil raw materials and cooking oil starting Thursday, April 28, 2022, until a date to be determined," said President Jokowi in his press release on Friday (April 22, 2022).

BPS noted that Indonesian palm oil is exported to five continents: Asia, Africa, Australia, America, and Europe, with the main market share in Asia.

In 2020, the largest buyers of Indonesian crude palm oil (CPO) were India, Spain, Malaysia, Italy, and Kenya.

CPO exports to India reached 4.39 million tons, equivalent to 61.23% of the total national CPO export volume in 2020.

Exports to Spain amounted to 769,800 tons (10.73%), and to Malaysia 374,360 tons (5.22%).

CPO exports to Italy were recorded at 347,700 tons (4.85%), and to Kenya at 333,600 tons (4.65%).

In total, CPO exports to these five countries contributed 86.68% to the total volume of Indonesian CPO exports, which amounted to 7.17 million tons in 2020.

CPO exports to other countries cumulatively reached approximately 955,000 tons (13.32%).
