Singapore Named Most Muslim-Friendly Country for Women in 2023

Singapore topped the list of Muslim-friendly destinations for women in the non-OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) category. This is based on findings from Mastercard and CrescentRating in the 2023 Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) report.

Singapore achieved an index score of 84 out of 100. Taiwan followed with a score of 82.

Other Asian countries, including Taiwan (82 points), Japan (81 points), South Korea (79 points), and Hong Kong (76 points), also ranked within the top 10.

This indicates that these countries, with predominantly non-Muslim populations, understand the safety standards required for Muslim women travelers.

The GMTI identifies that Muslim-friendly destinations for women should prioritize safety and security, offer appropriate prayer facilities, and accommodate cultural sensitivity.

According to the 2019 Muslim Women in Travel (MWIT) report, over 45% of Muslim travelers globally are women. This makes Muslim women a significant part of the global Muslim market due to their specific needs.

"By embracing the diversity and needs of Muslim women travelers, destinations have the opportunity to tap into a growing market segment," stated the GMTI report.

Based on the report, non-OIC countries have successfully fostered environments that are welcoming, safe, and respectful towards Muslim women travelers.
