Google Chrome is the most vulnerable web browser to hacking. This is evident from the numerous vulnerability reports related to Google Chrome in 2022.
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) defines a vulnerability as a weakness in an information technology system that can be exploited by hackers to launch cyberattacks.
If a vulnerability in a system is discovered by "good guys," they may report it to the relevant parties to encourage improvements.
However, if the vulnerability is discovered by "bad guys," they may steal data or illegally manipulate the system for various purposes.
According to VulDB data compiled by Atlas VPN, there were 303 vulnerability reports related to the Google Chrome application during the January-October 2022 period.
During the same period, reports of vulnerabilities in the Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari browsers were far fewer.
Opera was the only browser application without any vulnerability reports, as shown in the graph.
"All internet users need a browser to access various websites. Browsers also collect various sensitive data, ranging from account passwords, credit card information, and others. This is one of the main reasons why browser security is very important," said Atlas VPN in a presentation report on its official website (5/10/2022).
"Of all software products, browsers have the most security vulnerabilities," it continued.
To prevent hacking, Atlas VPN recommends that internet users choose secure browser applications, regularly update software, and avoid clicking on links indiscriminately online.
"Do not open emails or messages from unknown senders. Never click on links or open attached documents on the internet unless you are sure they are from a legitimate source," said Atlas VPN.
"In addition, be wary of any internet messages containing numerous grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, making urgent requests, or asking for personal information," it continued.
