According to data from the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker), approximately 25,000 people experienced job termination (PHK) in Indonesia during the January-December 2022 period.
Last year, the most significant number of layoffs occurred in West Java, with approximately 4,600 people affected.
Many PHK cases also occurred in Banten, East Java, East Kalimantan, and DKI Jakarta, with details as shown in the graph.
However, this data may not reflect the total number of PHK cases in Indonesia.
This is because Kemnaker only records PHK cases reported by companies through the Manpower Service Information and Application System and/or the Industrial Relations Court.
Meanwhile, according to the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo), the number of workers affected by PHK throughout Indonesia from January to November 2022 reached 919,071, significantly higher than Kemnaker's data.
Apindo also stated that a wave of mass layoffs will occur this year, particularly in the textile, footwear, and furniture industries.
"Certainly (those three industries) will conduct layoffs next year, not 'will' anymore," said Apindo Deputy Chairwoman Shinta Widjaja Kamdani, as reported by *Katadata*, Wednesday (21/12/2022).
