According to a recent Populix survey, 72.4% of Indonesian internet users surveyed admitted to seeing online gambling advertisements on social media.

Instagram was cited by 46% of respondents as the social media platform most frequently displaying online gambling ads.

This was followed by Facebook and YouTube, each cited by 45% of respondents as platforms with a high prevalence of online gambling ads.

Furthermore, 27% of respondents reported seeing many online gambling ads on TikTok, followed by X/Twitter (16%), and other social media platforms (4%).

The survey also found that 82% of Indonesian internet users surveyed had been exposed to online gambling ads in the past six months.

Of these, the most common type of online gambling ad was for slot games, reported by 80% of respondents.

This was followed by domino gambling ads (48%), online poker ads (48%), online casino ads (47%), and sports betting ads (44%).

Less explicit online gambling ads were also identified, including e-Games (15%), card games (15%), virtual sports (8%), and number games (7%).

This survey was conducted from November 21-28, 2023, involving 766 respondents out of a total of 1,058 respondents who had seen online gambling ads in the past six months. Respondents were spread across various regions in Indonesia, with 52% male and 48% female.

The majority of respondents were from Java (80%), followed by Sumatra (11%), and other islands (9%). In terms of age, respondents were predominantly aged 17-25 (45%) and 26-35 (21%).
