According to Oxford Economics research, many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the United States (US) have benefited from TikTok.

In September-October 2023, Oxford Economics surveyed 1,050 US-based SME owners of TikTok business accounts across all US states.

The results showed that approximately 86-97% of respondents reported increased sales after promoting their businesses on TikTok.

Furthermore, about 71-88% of respondents had successfully sold out their products after promoting them through the app.

The success rate of these promotions varied according to the number of followers each SME had, as detailed in the graph.

TikTok-US Government Conflict

Despite its positive collaboration with SMEs, TikTok now faces the threat of being banned from the US.

The US government is preparing new regulations to force ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns TikTok, to divest or sell its ownership of the app.

According to Reuters, these regulations are driven by concerns that TikTok shares US citizens' personal data with the Chinese government.

"For years, we have allowed the Chinese Communist Party to control one of the most popular apps in the US," said US Congressman Marco Rubio, as reported by Reuters (April 24, 2024). "The new (US) regulations will require the Chinese owner of TikTok to sell the app. This is a good step for the US," he added.

On the other hand, according to Reuters, ByteDance refuses to comply.
