Most MiChat users are Gen Z.

The Singaporean instant messaging app MiChat is often linked to online prostitution. Several cases in Indonesia involve users arrested for using the app to arrange sexual encounters.

According to SimilarWeb data, globally, the MiChat website attracted 114,300 visits in October 2022. The majority of visitors were in the 18-24 age group (Gen Z), accounting for 37.45%.

The next largest visitor group was 25-34 years old (32.91%), followed by the 35-44 age group (14.41%). MiChat also has users over 45, although their percentage is smaller than younger users.

Indonesia ranks highest globally as the largest user of MiChat, at 83.37%. The instant messaging site is also frequently visited by users in France (5.96%), Argentina (4.25%), Malaysia (2.52%), and the United States (2.19%).

Regarding prostitution cases in Indonesia, clinical sexologist Zoya Amirin assesses that online prostitution, such as that found on MiChat, poses risks, especially for teenagers.

"First sexual intercourse under the age of 20 can potentially lead to cervical cancer, especially if pregnancy occurs under 20. Even if it's terminated, the risk of cervical cancer remains. That's for women," said Zoya, as reported by *Kumparan.com* on Saturday, November 19, 2022.

For men, Zoya stated that the danger lies in sexually transmitted infections. She believes online prostitution is harder for the government to control due to its use of private conversations.
