Denmark, Ranked the World's Best for E-Government in 2022

The United Nations (UN) has released its 12th annual survey on electronic government (e-government). This survey aims to review the latest progress made by UN member states in the development of e-government or electronic-based government systems.

Based on the survey, Denmark had the highest e-government development index (EGDI) score globally in 2022, achieving 0.9717 out of 1 point.

Finland ranked second with an EGDI score of 0.9533 points. Following closely were South Korea and New Zealand with scores of 0.9529 and 0.9432 points, respectively.

Sweden and Iceland followed with EGDI scores of 0.9410 points each. This was followed by Australia (0.9405 points), Estonia (0.9393), the Netherlands (0.9384 points), and the United States (0.9151 points).

Indonesia ranked 77th globally with an EGDI score of 0.7160. Meanwhile, South Sudan had the lowest EGDI score worldwide, ranking 193rd with a score of only 0.0852 points.

The report notes that this year, 60 countries had very high EGDI scores ranging from 0.75 to 1 point. Furthermore, 73 countries had high EGDI scores ranging from 0.50 to 0.75 points.

Then, 53 countries were part of the medium EGDI group with scores between 0.25 and 0.50 points. Meanwhile, 7 countries had low EGDI scores ranging from 0.00 to 0.25 points.

It should be noted that the methodology used in this e-government survey is based on three main pillars. First, the scope and quality of online services are quantified as the Online Service Index (OSI).

Second, the status of telecommunications infrastructure development, or the Telecommunication Infrastructure Index (TII). Third, the human capital embedded in the system, or the Human Capital Index (HCI).
