Indonesian urban residents appear quite familiar with digital wallets or e-wallets.

According to the *E-Wallet Industry Outlook 2023* report from Insight Asia, out of 1,300 surveyed urban residents, 74% had used a digital wallet.

Within this group, approximately 61% used several digital wallet applications simultaneously. The most widely used platform was Gopay, with 71% of users.

However, Gopay faces stiff competition from OVO, which boasts 70% user adoption.

Meanwhile, other digital wallet platforms such as Dana, ShopeePay, and LinkAja have a smaller user base, as shown in the graph.

Insight Asia also found that the majority of digital wallet users utilize the platform for online shopping (79%).

Others use it for top-ups (78%), money transfers (78%), and paying household bills (45%).

"Financial technology such as e-wallets and QR codes will continue to improve people's living standards by opening up more access to various productive activities," said the Insight Asia team in their report.

"Only brands that can meet the fintech needs of the community and consistently deliver on their promises can win the market in the future," they continued.

Insight Asia conducted this survey in September 2022, involving 1,300 respondents aged 18-55 years.

Respondents were spread across several major Indonesian cities, namely Jabodetabek, Bandung, Medan, Makassar, Semarang, Palembang, and Pekanbaru.

The number of male and female respondents was balanced, with a proportion of 50% each. Respondents were from the middle and upper socio-economic classes.
