Kumparan surveyed public opinion on what aspects should be considered in the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) in Indonesia.
The results show that the majority, or 84% of respondents, believe that privacy and personal data protection need to be the main focus in AI regulation.
The next priority aspects are related to the protection of copyright and creativity (74%), as well as the prevention of AI misuse for fraud such as deepfakes (74%).
Some respondents also highlighted the importance of transparency in how AI works (53%), the prevention of bias and discrimination (52%), the protection of children and vulnerable groups (52%), and responsibility for social impacts such as poverty (44%).
"The public prioritizes protection that has a real impact on personal lives, such as data security, copyright, and the prevention of digital crimes, compared to more conceptual issues like algorithmic bias or AI system ethics," Kumparan stated in the Indonesia AI Report 2025.
Kumparan conducted this online survey with 1,000 respondents, with 50% located in Jabodetabek and the other 50% spread across Surabaya, Medan, Makassar, Denpasar, and Balikpapan.
Respondents had an educational background ranging from high school (SMA) to master's degree (S2), with a gender proportion of 50% male and 50% female.
In terms of age groups, respondents consisted of 50% Gen Z (18-28 years old) and 50% millennials (29-44 years old).
