According to a JakPat survey of 2,259 Indonesian consumers, 38% regularly watch films or series via over-the-top (OTT) streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+, Viu, and others.
Of this OTT viewing group, the majority (69%) of respondents prefer South Korean films/series.
The next most popular films/series are Indonesian productions, accounting for 65%. According to JakPat, these local films are more preferred by male respondents and Generation Z.
Respondents also showed preference for films/series from the United States (48%); the United Kingdom (40%); Japan (32%); China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong (31%); and Europe (21%).
JakPat also found that the majority of OTT service consumers prefer action films/series (66%).
Others favored comedy (65%), romance (62%), drama (60%), and adventure (54%) genres.
This JakPat survey involved 2,259 respondents, narrowed down to 852 respondents who use OTT services to watch films/series. In total, respondents consisted of 50% male and 50% female.
Respondents were located in non-Jabodetabek Java (49%), Jabodetabek (31%), and outside Java (20%).
40% of respondents were Generation Z (ages 15-28), 39% were millennials (ages 29-44), and 21% were Generation X (ages 45-55).
The survey was conducted online from May 27 to June 3, 2025, with a margin of error below 5%.
