A JakPat survey shows that 51% of 1,211 respondents admitted to enjoying Korean dramas (drakor) in April 2025.
The majority, or 82%, stated that compelling storylines as their strong reason to watch. Also, 62% found the characters appealing, followed by 58% who enjoyed the actors/actresses, and 45% who felt the storylines were relevant.
"This indicates that content quality remains more important than trends or visuals in attracting viewers," Jakpat wrote in its report, Korean Drama Trends in Indonesia.
Other reasons included learning new things (39%), cinematography (38%), and the dramas' viral popularity (36%).
JakPat also investigated why respondents didn't finish watching dramas. 65% stopped because they were bored with the plot. Others stopped due to a slow pace (46%), excessive length (33%), or clichés (30%).
The JakPat survey involved 1,211 respondents, narrowed down to 621 who watch Korean dramas. The total respondent pool was 50% male and 50% female.
Respondents were from Java outside Jakarta and its surrounding areas (Jabodetabek) (46%), Jabodetabek (43%), and outside Java (11%). 50% were millennials (29-44 years old) and 50% were Gen Z (15-28 years old).
The online survey was conducted via the JakPat app on April 28-29, 2025, with a margin of error below 5%.
