A JakPat survey reveals that 87% of Indonesian Gen Z and millennial respondents are interested in self-development activities.
Of this group, 61% cited increased religious devotion as a self-development effort, followed by 56% who focused on cultivating gratitude and 51% striving for a neat and organized life.
Other popular self-development activities among young people included getting enough sleep (46%), regular exercise (45%), and consuming nutritious food (42%).
Other respondents chose to develop themselves by building relationships (41%), taking courses (41%), independent learning through digital media (39%), and pursuing side hustles (37%).
The survey also explored the reasons behind Gen Z and millennials' interest in self-development. The majority, or 62% of respondents, aimed to expand their knowledge and understanding.
"Another common reason is to improve their quality of life and skills, especially among millennials," wrote JakPat in their report titled *Exploring Self-Development Trends Among Gen Z and Millennials*.
The JakPat survey involved 1,549 respondents, comprising 54% male and 46% female.
Respondents were located in non-Jabodetabek Java (53%), Jabodetabek (35%), and outside Java (12%). Respondents were 52% millennials (aged 29-44) and 48% Gen Z (aged 15-28).
The survey was conducted online via the JakPat application on December 24-25, 2025, with a margin of error below 5%.
