Ipsos released a research report titled *Ipsos Housing Monitor 2025* revealing a series of challenges in the global housing sector.
The majority of respondents from 30 surveyed countries cited high property prices as the main problem in the housing sector.
Other challenges included rental costs, interest rates, property taxes, and the cost of home construction.
Below are the 13 biggest challenges in the housing sector according to the 2025 Ipsos survey:
1. High property prices: 49%
2. Excessively high rental costs: 43%
3. High interest rates: 29%
4. Excessively high taxes: 28%
5. Increasing housing construction costs: 27%
6. Lack of affordable housing/social housing programs: 18%
7. Homelessness: 17%
8. Insufficient housing stock: 16%
9. Poor housing quality: 15%
10. Overpopulation: 10%
11. Construction restrictions: 9%
12. Stronger tenant rights: 7%
13. Overheated properties/lack of adequate air conditioning: 5%
The survey also found that the majority of surveyed countries agree that young people will find it difficult to obtain housing in the future.
"Seven out of ten (71%) of the 30 countries agree that even if young people today work hard and get good jobs, they will have difficulty obtaining suitable housing," wrote Ipsos.
Ipsos conducted this survey between December 20, 2024, and January 3, 2025, involving 22,279 respondents under 75 years of age across 30 countries. Specifically in Indonesia, 500 respondents aged 21-74 participated.
