Beyond essential goods, the majority of Indonesian Gen Z are most interested in buying fashion products, including clothing and accessories.
This is evident from the results of the *Urban Banking Survey 2024* released by Mandiri Institute.
In October 2024, Mandiri Institute surveyed 1,500 young people in Indonesian cities regarding their financial and consumption behavior.
Mandiri Institute then calculated the *net spending intention*, namely the proportion of respondents planning to increase spending, minus the proportion of respondents who want to reduce spending on a particular product.
Among Gen Z respondents, the highest *net spending intention* or spending interest was directed towards essential goods (51%) and fashion (48%).
This was followed by cosmetics, medicine, and vitamins (38%); household needs (26%); electronics (26%); sports and hobbies (26%); and travel or tourism (10%).
"The lifestyle spending trend is not only happening now, because the intention to consume goods or services in this category will continue to increase in the future. This is shown by the *net spending intention* of each category which is positive and relatively high," said Mandiri Institute in its *Policy Brief 5* report, December 2024 edition.
