A Jakpat survey reveals several considerations for Gen Z and millennials when purchasing smartwatches in April 2024. These considerations include the features deemed most reliable in the technology.
The most common reason was monitoring heart rate during exercise, chosen by 80% of Gen Z respondents and 85% of millennials.
Second, storing workout history data, chosen by 54% of Gen Z and 66% of millennials.
Third, as a personal trainer, chosen by 45% of Gen Z and 49% of millennials.
Furthermore, monitoring running pace was chosen by 37% of Gen Z and 39% of millennials. The availability of weight training features was also cited, chosen by 29% of Gen Z and 28% of millennials.
Jakpat notes that these smartwatch considerations are similar to those chosen by respondents for fitness apps.
"83% of all respondents agreed to buy a smartwatch as a tool to monitor heart rate during exercise," wrote the Jakpat team in their *Indonesia Sports Habits and Healthy Lifestyle Part 2* report, cited on Wednesday (August 7, 2024).
Jakpat also mentions that many people find using a smartwatch during exercise to be very important. The breakdown is: very important 26%; important 40%; neutral 13%; unimportant 11%; very unimportant 10%. The average score is 3.62.
"4 out of 10 millennials believe it's important to use a smartwatch during exercise," said Jakpat.
This smartwatch survey involved 475 respondents who use the technology. However, the general survey on exercise habits and healthy lifestyles involved 3,934 respondents.
The overall respondent background consisted of 48% male and 52% female. By generation group: 51% Gen Z and 49% millennials.
Respondent age details: 16-19 years old 14%; 20-25 years old 22%; 26-29 years old 14%; 30-35 years old 22%; 36-39 years old 14%; and 40-45 years old 13%.
The sample was taken from several areas: Jabodetabek and South Tangerang; Java (West Java, East Java, Central Java, Banten (excluding Tangerang and South Tangerang), Yogyakarta); outside Java (major cities in Bali, Medan, Padang, Palembang, Pekanbaru, Bandar Lampung, Samarinda, Balikpapan, Manado, Makassar, Jayapura). The survey was conducted online via the Jakpat application, collected from April 22-28, 2024, with a margin of error below 5%.
