A Populix survey reveals that few Indonesian consumers purchase cell phones using PayLater. Only 5% of the 1,096 respondents used PayLater.

Similarly, only 5% of consumers used credit cards to buy cell phones.

Meanwhile, a dominant 90% of consumers purchased cell phones using cash or debit cards.

"Most respondents prefer cash for purchasing cell phones, citing convenience and avoiding administrative delays as the primary reason (69%). A comparable number of respondents chose credit cards or PayLater," said Populix, as reported in their findings.

The survey notes that the main reason respondents used PayLater to buy cell phones was the easy and flexible installment process (67%).

The primary reason for using credit cards was the availability of numerous promotions and bonuses (55%).

Populix conducted this online survey from August 9-14, 2023, involving 1,096 Indonesian workers, students, entrepreneurs, and housewives. The respondents were evenly split between male and female (50% each).

The majority of respondents were from Java (45%), followed by Sumatra (5%), with the remaining 50% from other islands. Respondents ranged in age from 17 to 55 years old, with the 17-25 age group dominating at 57%, followed by the 26-35 age group at 28%.
