The Netflix video streaming application continues to record subscriber growth. According to the latest data, the number of Netflix subscribers reached 238.39 million globally in Q2 2023.
This represents an 8.03% year-on-year (YoY) increase from 220.67 million subscribers in the same period last year.
By region, the highest number of Netflix subscribers in Q2 2023 was in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, totaling 79.81 million subscribers.
The next highest number of subscribers was in the United States and Canada, with 75.57 million subscribers in the same period. Following this, there were 42.47 million subscribers in Latin America.
Meanwhile, the number of Netflix subscribers in the Asia-Pacific region was the lowest among the three regions, at only 40.55 million.
The trend shows that the global number of Netflix subscribers has generally increased over the past decade. However, the number of subscribers to this video-on-demand service has also experienced periods of decline, as shown in the graph above.
Recent news indicates that Netflix will be raising subscription fees for its ad-free plan. This price increase is reportedly scheduled to be implemented several months after the SAG-AFTRA actors' strike in Hollywood began in July 2023.
News of the Netflix subscription price increase was first reported in an exclusive report by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). Citing Variety.com (Tuesday, October 3, 2023), Netflix is reportedly discussing price increases in several global markets.
According to anonymous sources in the report, the streaming service is most likely to raise subscription fees in the United States and Canada first.
However, the WSJ did not obtain information regarding the specific price details or the implementation date of the new Netflix subscription fees. Meanwhile, Netflix global reportedly declined to comment on the news.
