People across Indonesia have experienced various positive aspects of Ramadan in their communities, as documented in a Kompas Research and Development (Litbang Kompas) report titled "Ramadan Strengthens Harmony and Togetherness in Indonesian Society."
The survey revealed that 36.3% of respondents felt a stronger sense of family and togetherness in their neighborhoods during Ramadan.
Furthermore, 19.6% of respondents considered the more lively and festive atmosphere a positive aspect of the holy month. Other positive observations included increased sharing (12.6%), greater tolerance (8%), and heightened mutual care (6.8%).
Meanwhile, 6.3% of respondents reported other positive experiences, while 10.4% stated there were none.
"Thus, sharing, tolerance, togetherness, family bonds, and mutual care are keywords indirectly associated with the arrival of Ramadan," wrote Kompas Litbang researcher Debora Laksmi in her report on Monday, April 1, 2024.
The Kompas Litbang survey involved 505 randomly selected respondents using a stratified systematic sampling method across 38 Indonesian provinces.
Data collection was conducted from March 18-20, 2024, through telephone interviews. The margin of error is approximately 4.36% with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
