Public enthusiasm for using public transportation remains low. This is evident from the results of a survey conducted by *Kompas* Research and Development, titled *Improving Public Transportation Services to Address Capital City Congestion*.
In the survey, only 12.9% of respondents reported frequently using public transportation such as KRL (commuter rail), MRT (Mass Rapid Transit), buses, angkot (minibuses), and others on a daily basis.
This was followed by 14.3% of respondents who stated they rarely use public transportation, with a frequency of only 2-3 times a week.
A significant majority, 40.9% of respondents, admitted to rarely using these public facilities, or only once a month.
Meanwhile, 31.9% of respondents stated that they never use public transportation in their daily activities.
On the other hand, Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin urged the public to switch to public transportation to reduce air pollution, particularly in the Jabodetabek area.
“I encourage more people to use public transportation, which is now starting to utilize electric buses. Because the biggest source of pollution comes from vehicles,” said Ma'ruf Amin at the Vice President's Palace, as reported by *Bisnis.com* on Monday (August 14, 2023).
This survey conducted by *Kompas* Research and Development involved 510 respondents from 34 randomly selected provinces.
Data was collected from August 8-11, 2023, using an interview method. The margin of error is approximately 4.35%, with a 95% confidence level.
