Central Java Had the Nation's Highest Rate of Homeownership in 2020

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that 89.2% of households in Central Java owned their own homes in 2020. This is the highest percentage among all Indonesian provinces.

West Kalimantan is second with 88.83% of households owning their homes, followed by Lampung at 88.39%.

Conversely, Jakarta has the lowest percentage at 45.04%. Kepulauan Riau and East Kalimantan follow, with 66.37% and 68.83% respectively. These three provinces are below the national average of 79.1%.

According to BPS, limited land and housing supply coupled with population growth has caused house prices in Jakarta to skyrocket. As a result, many Jakartans find it difficult to buy their own homes. If not addressed promptly, this has the potential to create more social and economic problems.
