Populix surveyed the reasons why young Indonesians do not yet own a home. The results show that the majority, or 66% of respondents, feel they are not yet financially ready.

Furthermore, 11% of respondents feel their jobs are not yet settled, either in terms of career or work location.

Then, 10% of respondents have not yet found the right location or type of house, and 7% have not prioritized homeownership.

Another 6% of respondents feel that renting a house is more suitable for their flexible lifestyle than buying.

"Despite a strong desire for homeownership, younger generations (Gen Z and Millennials) are facing a steeper and more complex journey than ever before," wrote Populix on its Instagram account on Saturday (June 28, 2025).

This survey also found that when buying a home, 42% of respondents prioritize a strategic location.

Others considered land ownership (28%), affordable prices (15%), and land area (11%).

"To meet this growing demand in increasingly dense urban centers, many developers have turned to vertical housing solutions such as apartments and flats," said Populix.

"However, according to our recent survey, 83% respondent still prefer a landed house, even if it means compromising on space," they said.

This Populix survey involved 4,265 young Indonesian respondents. Data collection was conducted online from June 20-24, 2025.
