Gibran Receives the Most Negative Sentiment up to 24 Hours After the Vice Presidential Debate

According to social media analytics agency Drone Emprit, vice-presidential candidate number 2, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, received the most negative sentiment from netizens on Twitter/X after the fourth Presidential Debate and the following day (H+1).

Drone Emprit collected this data from 10 PM WIB on January 21, 2024, to 11:59 PM WIB on January 22, 2024.

During this period, Gibran was mentioned 512,000 times by Twitter users. However, the majority, or 66%, of the tweets had negative connotations.

"Words like 'arrogant,' 'cocky,' 'unpleasant,' 'cringe,' and 'ad hominem' fueled the negative discussion about Gibran," wrote Drone Emprit founder Ismail Fahmi in a tweet on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday (January 23, 2024).

There was also 28% positive sentiment for Gibran, driven by his perceived apologetic and thankful attitude. Then 6% was neutral sentiment.

On the other hand, vice-presidential candidate number 1, Muhaimin Iskandar, garnered the highest positive sentiment at 78%.

"The positive discussion about Muhaimin stemmed from appreciation for his jabs at Gibran (regarding the Election Commission's notes on ethics), his hug with Anies, and jokes about not being kidnapped to Rengasdengklok," wrote Ismail.

Muhaimin also received 9% negative sentiment on Twitter, because he was perceived as not addressing the massive use of coal in Indonesia and for bringing notes to the debate. Then 12% of mentions contained neutral sentiment.

Finally, vice-presidential candidate number 3, Mahfud MD, received 71% positive sentiment on Twitter, mainly due to his perceived patience and firmness in dealing with Gibran's gimmicks.

However, Mahfud was not free from negative sentiment. "11% of mentions were negative, mainly with netizens criticizing the incumbent Minister of Law and Human Rights, Mahfud, for failing to sharpen Indonesia's legal sword," wrote Ismail.
