Numerous Narratives of Lectures and Presidential Candidate Support on Twitter: What is the Sentiment?

The social media analytics firm, Drone Emprit, analyzed the narratives surrounding lectures and support for presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the 2024 Presidential Election.

This analysis was conducted on Twitter/X from January 22-28, 2024, using the keywords "kuliah" (lecture) and "cape" or "capek" (tired). The tweet "cape kuliah" (tired of lectures) was widely used among university-based accounts, such as @UGM_FESS, @itbfess, @UPIfess, and others.

According to Drone Emprit's data, this phrase first appeared on Twitter from the account @fuckingdustbag on January 22, 2024, at 6:45 PM WIB, which stated:

“Tired of studying for my bachelor's degree, only to end up choosing Prabowo. Seriously, that's a loss.”

During this period, there were 40,802 mentions on Twitter. The peak occurred on January 27, 2024, with 28,533 mentions.

Considering the netizens' responses, tweets with negative and positive sentiments had a fairly balanced proportion, 44% and 42%, respectively.

“This negative tone generally arises when connecting the phrase with ‘choosing 02, a loss’,” wrote Drone Emprit founder Ismail Fahmi on his personal Twitter account on Sunday (January 28, 2024).

Meanwhile, positive sentiment mostly referred to the number one candidate pair, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, such as ‘choosing 01, a gain’.

The remaining 14% of tweets related to the "tired of lectures" narrative had neutral connotations.

Drone Emprit stated that the numerous tweets using the phrase "capek-capek kuliah" (tired of studying) are considered a way for netizens to express their frustration or pride in their political choices.

“This reflects students' concern for social and political issues, and how these impact their choices in the public sphere,” wrote Ismail.
