According to a recent survey by Indikator Politik Indonesia, the electability or vote share of presidential candidate (capres) Prabowo Subianto decreased after being paired with vice presidential candidate (cawapres) Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
This survey was conducted after the announcement of the Constitutional Court's (MK) decision on October 16, 2023, which stated that presidential and vice-presidential candidates may be under 40 years old, provided they have previously served as regional heads or other elected officials.
Indikator's senior researcher, Burhanuddin Muhtadi, said that Prabowo's electability in a presidential election (pilpres) simulation without a running mate was 37%, while in a simulation paired with Gibran, it dropped to 36.1%.
"Prabowo's vote share decreased slightly when paired with Gibran," said Burhanuddin in an online press conference on the Indikator Politik YouTube account on Thursday (October 26, 2023).
A similar decrease also occurred for presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo after being paired with vice-presidential candidate Mahfud MD.
Burhanuddin stated that Ganjar's electability in a pilpres simulation without a running mate was 34.8%. However, when paired with Mahfud, his vote share dropped to 33.7%.
"Ganjar's vote share decreased when paired with Mahfud MD, and when pitted against Prabowo-Gibran and Anies-Muhaimin, some votes shifted to 'don't know' or 'didn't answer'," said Burhanuddin.
"Certainly, some long-time Prabowo supporters switched to Anies. Therefore, the Anies-Muhaimin vote share increased from 22.3% to 23.7%, higher than if Anies ran individually," he continued.
This survey involved 2,567 respondents aged 17 years and older or who were married. The sample was randomly selected using a multistage random sampling method from all provinces, proportionally distributed.
The survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews by trained interviewers during the period of October 16-20, 2023. The survey's margin of error is 1.97% with a 95% confidence level.
