In 2015, Jakarta was the most democratic province in Indonesia, boasting the highest Democracy Index (IDI) among the 33 other provinces. Jakarta's IDI in 2015 reached 85.32, an increase from the previous year's 84.70. In contrast, the national IDI in 2015 was 72.82, lower than the previous year's 73.04.

Two provinces, Papua and West Papua, were categorized as "poor," with indices below 60.
