Based on a survey conducted by the National Committee for Tobacco Control (Komnas PT) and the Indonesian Survey Circle (LSI) research institution, a majority or 63.5% of respondents stated they would prefer to vote for a presidential candidate (capres) who has policies to reduce tobacco consumption.

The details show that 50.5% of respondents answered that they want to vote for such a candidate, and 13% responded that they strongly want to.

"This could be an opportunity for presidential candidates to raise more issues about reducing tobacco consumption in their public debates," said Hendriyani, a lecturer at the Department of Communication Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Indonesia, in a virtual press conference on Wednesday (August 9, 2023).

Meanwhile, 11.9% of respondents stated that they do not want to vote for a president who has policies to reduce tobacco consumption.

This percentage consists of 10.4% of respondents who do not want to vote for such a candidate and 1.5% who stated they strongly do not want to.

Furthermore, 24.6% of other respondents answered "don't know" or did not answer.

This survey involved 800 respondents from various regions in Indonesia aged 17 and above. The sample was selected using a multistage random sampling technique.

Data was collected from May 2-10, 2023, using a face-to-face interview method, with a margin of error of approximately 3.5% and a 95% confidence level.
