Transparency International: Somalia Ranked the World's Most Corrupt Country in 2022

Transparency International (TI) ranked Somalia as the world's most corrupt country in 2022. According to TI's report, the country's Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) score was only 12 out of 100 last year.

Transparency International surveyed corruption in 180 countries. A score of 0 indicates a highly corrupt country, while a score of 100 signifies a very clean country.

The report stated that the average global CPI in 2022 was 43. This means Somalia's CPI was approximately 3.5 times worse than the global average.

Somalia's CPI score also decreased by 13 points from the previous year. The previous year, the country's CPI ranked 178th globally.

Syria and South Sudan followed as the second most corrupt countries in 2022, each with a CPI score of 13. Venezuela and Yemen had CPI scores of 14 and 16, respectively.

4. Venezuela: 14 points
5. Yemen: 16 points
6. Libya: 17 points
7. North Korea: 17 points
8. Haiti: 17 points
9. Equatorial Guinea: 17 points
10. Burundi: 17 points

On the other hand, Denmark was named the world's least corrupt country last year, with a CPI score of 90.

Indonesia ranked 110th globally, according to Transparency International. Indonesia's CPI was 34 points in 2022, down 4 points from the previous year.
