According to a Populix survey, 62% of respondents said they plan to go home for Lebaran (Eid al-Fitr) this year. The reason cited is that it's a common tradition and respondents miss their hometowns.

Several preparations are made by people before the Lebaran homecoming. The survey shows that the primary preparation is holiday allowance (THR) for family in their hometowns, as stated by 70% of respondents.

“For Muslim homecoming travelers, preparing extra expenses for THR in their hometowns is commonplace,” wrote Populix in its report titled *Insights into Indonesia's Eid Al-Fitr: Homecoming & Social Activities.*

Next, 58% of respondents prepare gifts for family members upon returning home.

Other respondents also bought cookies (51%), new clothes (50%), serviced their vehicles (47%), and purchased Lebaran hampers (30%).

Before going home, 26% of respondents informed their local RT/RW head (community leaders) of their departure. Then, 21% bought CCTV cameras for their homes, 20% bought homecoming travel tickets, and 9% bought new vehicles.

Populix conducted this online survey from February 22-25, 2024, involving 1,029 respondents in Indonesia. The sample was then narrowed down to 640 respondents who said they would be going home.

The majority of respondents were from Java (82%), followed by Sumatra (12%), and other islands (6%). Respondents were dominated by the 17-25 age group (40%) and the 26-35 age group (22%).
