Survey: Majority of Public Don't Believe Jokowi Falsified His Diploma

The Indonesian Political Indicator Survey shows that a majority, or 75.9%, of respondents are aware of the alleged forgery of the seventh Indonesian President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) diploma.

"Rarely has a legal case attracted this much attention; TV broadcasts and podcasts are widely reporting on this case because it has proven quite captivating to the public," said Burhanuddin Muhtadi, Senior Researcher at Indikator Politik, in an online press conference on Tuesday (27/5/2025).

Of those aware, 69.7% of respondents said they did not believe Jokowi forged his diploma. This comprises 24.7% of respondents who are somewhat disbelieving and 45% who do not believe at all.

Meanwhile, 18.7% of respondents believe the president who was born in Solo forged his diploma. This breaks down into 5% who strongly believe and 13.7% who believe.

The Indonesian National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) has claimed that Jokowi's diploma is authentic. This decision was made after investigators examined the original diploma and conducted a series of examinations.

This survey involved 1,286 respondents aged 17 and above spread across Indonesia. Respondents were selected using a multistage random sampling method.

Data collection was conducted from May 17-20, 2025, through face-to-face interviews with trained interviewers. The survey's margin of error is approximately 2.8% at a 95% confidence level.
