A Kompas Research and Development (Litbang Kompas) poll reveals several pressing issues requiring immediate attention in North Sumatra.

The results show that 22.3% of respondents considered infrastructure development, such as roads, dams, and others, as the main problem in their region.

"Infrastructure issues, particularly road quality, are a major concern because they directly impact the welfare and mobility of the community," wrote a Kompas Litbang researcher in their report on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

The next most significant issue is the fulfillment of basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter, cited by 17.1% of respondents.

In line with this, the problems in North Sumatra that respondents want addressed urgently include poverty eradication (13.7%), unemployment (13.1%), and maintaining stable staple food prices (11.3%).

"North Sumatran residents hope that future Sumatran leaders can find concrete solutions to alleviate the economic pressures, the cycle of poverty, and unemployment, so that their quality of life can improve," wrote Litbang Kompas.

This survey involved 800 randomly selected respondents using a stratified systematic sampling method in North Sumatra province.

Data collection was conducted from October 22-28, 2024, through face-to-face interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 3.46% with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
