Indonesia is once again hosting the 43rd ASEAN Summit (KTT). This conference, themed "ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth," will be held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) in Jakarta from September 5-7, 2023.
The ASEAN Summit is a meeting of the leaders of the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), held since 1976. Since the ratification of the ASEAN Charter in 2007, these meetings have been held twice a year.
ASEAN comprises 11 member states: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Timor-Leste.
The 42nd ASEAN Summit was previously held in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on May 10-11, 2023.
Hosting the 43rd ASEAN Summit makes Indonesia the country with the most ASEAN Summits hosted in Southeast Asia to date, a total of six times. This number is equal to Thailand, which has also hosted six ASEAN Summits.
Following Indonesia and Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, and Cambodia have each hosted five ASEAN Summits. The Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia have each hosted four.
Myanmar and Laos have each hosted two ASEAN Summits. Timor-Leste has not yet hosted an ASEAN Summit, as it only joined ASEAN in November 2022.
