Political Charter: Public Majority Disagrees with Political Dynasties

A survey by Charta Politika research institute shows that the majority of the Indonesian public rejects political dynasties.

Charta Politika analyst, Nachrudin, stated that 748 respondents (61.3%) out of 1,220 respondents claimed to be aware of the issue of political dynasties in the 2024 Presidential Election.

Of the respondents who were aware of the issue, the majority expressed disapproval.

"63% stated their disapproval of political dynasties in Indonesia," said Nachrudin in a press conference on Sunday (21/1/2024).

Only 20.2% of respondents stated agreement with political dynasties, while 16.7% answered "don't know/disagree".

Charta Politika then posed further questions to respondents who disagreed with political dynasties. They were asked whether or not they were worried that the existence of political dynasties would hinder democracy in Indonesia.

Of the total 63% of respondents who disagreed with political dynasties, only 46.9% admitted to being worried that it would hinder democracy.

"So there is still a knowledge gap among the public regarding the hindrance of democracy through political dynasties," said Nachrudin.

This survey involved 1,220 respondents aged 17 years or older, or already married at the time of the survey. The sample was randomly selected using a multistage random sampling method.

Data collection was conducted from January 4-11, 2024, using face-to-face interviews. This survey has a margin of error of approximately 2.82% and a 95% confidence level.
