Presidential hopeful Anies Baswedan declared Muhaimin Iskandar, also known as Cak Imin, as his running mate for the 2024 Presidential election on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023.
This declaration reshaped the political coalition landscape for the 2024 General Election.
Previously, Anies Baswedan was supported by the National Democrat Party (Nasdem), the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), and the Democratic Party.
Prabowo Subianto was backed by the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), the National Mandate Party (PAN), the Golkar Party, and the National Awakening Party (PKB).
Ganjar Pranowo, meanwhile, received support from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), the United Development Party (PPP), and the Indonesian Unity Party (Perindo).
However, following Anies and Cak Imin's declaration, the Democratic Party withdrew its support for Anies.
"The Democratic Party withdraws its support for Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate in the 2024 Presidential Election," stated Andi Mallarangeng, Secretary of the Democratic Party's High Council, as reported by Antara news agency on Friday, September 1st, 2023.
PKS subsequently declared continued support for Anies but hasn't explicitly endorsed Cak Imin.
PKB, on the other hand, left Prabowo's coalition and switched its support to Anies.
"PKB has made a decision, and last night Mr. Muhaimin contacted us, sent us a WhatsApp message (regarding PKB's decision to leave Prabowo's coalition)," said Ahmad Muzani, Secretary General of Gerindra, as reported by CNN Indonesia on Sunday, September 3rd, 2023.
The Crescent Star Party (PBB) recently declared its support for Prabowo in early September 2023.
"We have held a deliberation and decided, a decision made together with the PBB Central Leadership Council, to nominate Mr. Prabowo Subianto as a presidential candidate in 2024," said Yusril Ihza Mahendra, Chairman of PBB, as reported by Antara news agency on Sunday, September 3rd, 2023.
Due to these dynamics, the national political party coalitions at the beginning of September 2023 changed as follows:
Coalition Supporting Anies Baswedan:
* Nasdem: previous election vote share 9.05%, DPR seat share 10.26%
* PKS: vote share 8.21%, DPR seat share 8.70%

* PAN: vote share 6.84%, DPR seat share 7.65%

* PBB: vote share 0.79%, DPR seat share 0%
* Total: vote share 32.51%, DPR seat share 36%

* PPP: vote share 4.52%, DPR seat share 3.3%
* Perindo: vote share 2.67%, DPR seat share 0%
* Total: vote share 26.52%, DPR seat share 25.56%
As of Monday afternoon, September 4th, 2023, the Democratic Party has yet to announce its new position after withdrawing support for Anies. Several parties remain unaligned with any coalition.
This coalition arrangement may still change in the future, as stated by President Jokowi.
"The 2024 (election) matters shouldn't be rushed. *Ojo kesusu* (Don't rush). Let's just work on our country's economy first, because I see the political attractions aren't over yet, they're still going back and forth," said Jokowi, as reported by Antara on Wednesday, August 29th, 2023.
"I don't know, this party goes there, this party goes here, this party goes there, this party goes here. So, it's still all over the place," said Jokowi.
