Several ministers and deputy ministers in President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi's) "Indonesia Maju" cabinet will be competing as prospective legislative candidates (caleg) for the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) in the 2024 General Election.
Based on Databoks's observation of the infopemilu.kpu.go.id website accessed on Tuesday (29/8/2023) at 10.00 WIB, there are 5 ministers and 4 deputy ministers from Jokowi's cabinet running for seats in Senayan, Jakarta.
Looking at the distribution of political parties (parpol) of these ministers and deputy ministers, the majority come from PDI-P, Golkar, and PKB, with 2 people each. The remaining candidates are from Nasdem, Perindo, and PBB.
So, which ministers and deputy ministers from Jokowi's cabinet are competing for DPR seats in the 2024 General Election? Here is the list.
Ministers:
* Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah, Jakarta 2 Electoral District (PKB)
* Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo, Jakarta 1 Electoral District (Golkar Party)
* Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H Laoly, North Sumatra 1 Electoral District (PDIP)
* Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo, South Sulawesi 1 Electoral District (NasDem Party)

Ministers and deputy ministers in the Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin government who intend to run as DPR candidates in the 2024 General Election are not required to resign from their positions. This regulation is stipulated in Article 240 Paragraph (1) letter k of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections.
This article only excludes several public office positions that must resign if the office holder runs as a DPR candidate. These positions include regional heads, deputy regional heads, civil servants, and members of the TNI and Polri.
In addition, directors, commissioners, supervisory boards, and employees of SOEs and regional-owned enterprises (BUMD) must also resign if they become legislative candidates.
There are other requirements that must be met by legislative candidates in these regulations. One of them is the obligation to be a member of a participating political party and to be nominated in only one electoral district (dapil).
