List of Islands with the Largest Gold Ore Reserves in Indonesia

Indonesia's largest gold ore reserves are located on the island of Papua. A 2020 booklet on gold released by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) shows that Papua has gold ore reserves reaching 1.87 billion tons, or 52% of the total national gold ore reserves.

Papua is not the only island with significant Indonesian gold ore reserves. Sulawesi Island is second, with gold ore reserves reaching 557.05 million tons. Next are Nusa Tenggara and Java Islands, with gold ore reserves of 506.9 million tons and 396.99 million tons respectively.

Sumatra and Kalimantan Islands have gold ore reserves of 168.6 million tons and 40.3 million tons respectively. Meanwhile, gold ore reserves in Maluku Island are recorded at 6.82 million tons.

Based on resources, Nusa Tenggara Island has the largest gold ore resources in Indonesia, amounting to 5 billion tons. Maluku Island has the least, with 332.32 million tons.

Indonesia has total gold ore reserves of 3.56 billion tons, while its resources reach 14.96 billion tons. Indonesia also has gold metal reserves of 5,000 tons and resources of 10,000 tons.

Data from the Ministry of ESDM also shows that Indonesia ranked fifth in the world for largest gold reserves in 2019. Indonesia was recorded as having 2,600 tons of gold reserves, equivalent to 5% of the world's total gold reserves.
