Global oil prices risk rising due to the conflict between Iran and Israel that erupted in April 2024.
"War will not only disrupt production but also distribution channels. This situation will trigger a surge in oil prices," said economist Josua Pardede, as reported by Antara on Wednesday (April 17, 2024).
Based on data from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Iran is indeed a major oil producer on a global scale.
OPEC recorded that throughout 2022, Iran was able to produce approximately 2.55 million barrels of crude oil per day.
This figure is equivalent to 3.5% of total global oil production, making Iran the 9th largest oil-producing country in the world.
Iran also has proven crude oil reserves of approximately 208.6 billion barrels in 2022, equivalent to 13.3% of total global oil reserves.
Iran's oil reserves are second only to Venezuela and Saudi Arabia, as shown in the graph.
