In 2017, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI)'s gold sales reached US$1.95 billion, equivalent to Rp25.96 trillion. This amounted to 39.46% of PTFI's total sales from three commodities (copper, gold, and silver), which reached US$4.95 billion or approximately Rp65.79 trillion. The company's largest revenue came from copper sales, reaching US$2.95 billion, equivalent to Rp39.17 trillion, or about 59.5% of total sales. The remaining revenue came from silver sales, reaching US$49.09 million, worth Rp652.87 billion, or 0.99% of the company's total sales.
Geographically, PTFI's largest sales were in the domestic market, valued at US$2.02 billion, or approximately 45.51% of total net sales of US$4.45 billion, with the remainder exported internationally. PTFI's main export destinations were Japan (US$637.62 million), followed by India (US$576.97 million), and China (US$378 million).
For information, on July 12, 2018, PT Inalum, Freeport McMoRan Inc., and Rio Tinto agreed to sign a Head of Agreement (HOA) regarding the divestment of PTFI shares. If this agreement is implemented, Inalum will become the majority shareholder of PTFI, holding 51% of the shares, up from its current 9.36%.
