The price of Coldplay concert tickets, for their upcoming Indonesian performance on November 15th, 2023, has sparked much discussion online. This is because the advertised ticket prices do not include a 15% government tax and a 5% organizer commission.
This is clearly stated in the ticket price poster released by the organizer, PK Entertainment.
The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) of the Ministry of Finance responded that concert taxes are the responsibility of the local government (pemda).
As reported by *Katadata*, the regulations for concert taxes are governed by the entertainment tax regulations within the Law on Financial Relations between the Central Government and Regional Governments (UU HKPD).
“Concert taxes are regional taxes. In the Value Added Tax Law (UU PPN), concert taxes are not included; therefore, we leave it to the regions,” stated the Director of Tax Regulations I of the DJP, Hestu Yoga Saksama, during a media briefing in Jakarta on Thursday, May 11th, 2023.

Similarly, Yon Arsal, a Special Staff Member to the Minister of Finance for Tax Compliance, stated that the central government only receives monthly reports on entertainment taxes from the regions.
This aims to monitor the development of the industry sector and indicators impacting economic growth.
“Entertainment taxes have already been allocated. So, if it's already in the UU HKPD, we don't regulate it again in the UU PPN,” said Yon.
Entertainment tax regulations in Jakarta are stipulated in Jakarta Provincial Regional Regulation (Perda) Number 3 of 2015 concerning Amendments to Regional Regulation Number 13 of 2010 concerning Entertainment Tax. Article 7 of this regulation explains that the tax rate for international-class art, music, dance, and/or fashion shows is 15%.
