Global Urea Fertilizer Prices Rise in February 2026

According to World Bank data, the average price of urea fertilizer on the global market reached US$472 per ton in February 2026.

The price increased by 14% compared to the previous month (month-to-month), and was 8% higher than a year ago (year-on-year).

The global urea fertilizer price in February 2026 also reached its highest level in the last six months, as shown in the chart.

According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), global fertilizer prices are at risk of rising again due to the US-Israel war against Iran that erupted since the end of February 2026.

The reason is that this war is disrupting shipping activities in the Strait of Hormuz, which is an important route for global fertilizer trade.

"The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, carrying around a quarter of global seaborne oil trade and significant volumes of liquefied natural gas and fertilizers," said UNCTAD in its report (March 2026).

"Higher energy, fertilizer and transport costs – including freight rates, bunker fuel prices and insurance premiums – may increase food costs and intensify cost-of-living pressures, particularly for the most vulnerable," they said.
