The per capita food poverty line in West Papua Province was Rp. 529,920 per capita per month in 2022. This figure is up by Rp. 26,000 compared to the previous semester's data, which was recorded at Rp. 503,920 per capita per month.
The poverty line in West Papua increased further this September compared to the previous period. Historically, the province recorded its lowest growth two years ago in September 2020 at 0.47 percent. This year, the poverty line in West Papua grew by 5.16 percent.
For annual growth, the poverty line shows an increase compared to the same period the previous year, from 5.75 percent to 7.6 percent. Furthermore, this growth is lower than the historical highest growth rate ever recorded at 9.41 percent.
The Poverty Line (PL) reflects the minimum rupiah expenditure needed by a person to meet their basic needs for a month, including both food and non-food needs.
The poverty line consists of two components. The food poverty line is the minimum expenditure for food needs, equivalent to 2100 kilocalories per capita per day. The non-food poverty line is the minimum expenditure for non-food needs such as housing, clothing, education, and health.
As stated in the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) report, the highest semester-on-semester growth of the poverty line in this province in seven years was 8.6 percent, and the lowest was 0.47 percent, with an upward trend in the poverty line. This year's poverty line growth still shows a higher figure than before the Covid-19 pandemic.
Based on island, West Papua has the highest poverty line in the Maluku and Papua islands. This year, growth in this province is lower than the national average.
