The Smallest Indonesian Fishing Vessel Tonnage in the Pacific Ocean

Indonesian fishing vessels operating in the Pacific Ocean are categorized as having the smallest tonnage. Of the 33 countries registering fishing activities, the average tonnage of Indonesian vessels is only 76.9 GT. Indonesia not only has the smallest vessels, but also registers the fewest number of them.

Data from the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) shows that Indonesia only has 9 vessels, not significantly different from Thailand's 7. However, the average tonnage of Thai vessels reaches 2,760 GT, placing them among the largest in the region.

Even China, one of the world's largest fish producers, registers 617 vessels with an average tonnage of 453 GT. Other countries, such as Japan with 827 vessels averaging 258 GT, and Panama with 107 vessels averaging 5,041 GT, show a much larger scale of operation.
